Go Back

This way of reading - one word at a time - has it's pros and cons. Sometimes I love it.

A while ago I wasn't happy with the available readers so I resolved to make my own.
The WordStreamer you can download from here is the result of my efforts.

You can;
  • browse to open a text file on your computer,
  • or drag a selection containing text onto the window when playing is paused,
  • adjust the speed from very slow to far too quick,
  • click buttons to move back and forward various amounts,
  • or use the slider to change your current position in the file.

WordStreamer is totally and utterly unsupported and can crash as explained in the docs
There's a straight Java version as well as versions for Mac and Windows
Use the Java version if your device already has Java Runtime Environment 1.7.0_10 or later
Mac version bundled with JRE so no need to check your JRE but it is much larger

I like to select a large chunk of webpage - images and all - and drag it onto the WordStreamer window.
It ignores the pictures and will stream the text for you.

A small selection of "Libertarian Reads" text files is also in the downloads directory and can be used to test the app. Enjoy!!
